Cuyahoga County Airport To Reopen after Runway Project

 – August 1, 2017, 12:05 PM
Cleveland Cuyahoga County Airport will reopen its sole Runway 6/24 on Thursday after a more than two-month reconstruction project of the 5,100-foot surface. According to the county authority, the $9 million job—paid for by FAA grants (90 percent), the Ohio DoT and the county—involved milling and resurfacing the runway, in addition to adding a new taxiway connector. Due to the need for the surface to cure completely, the runway will be closed again on August 19 and 20 to install grooves in its surface. The Cleveland Jet Center, the lone FBO on the field, took advantage of the idle period by conducting minor renovations. To celebrate the airport’s reopening it will offer a 50 cent-per-gallon fuel discount to all transient customers who fly in through the end of the week. The airport is currently awaiting FAA grant approval for next year’s project, which will involve installing an engineered materials arresting system (EMAS) at both ends of the runway.

Runway Progress

We are excited to announce that the CGF runway will be open on Saturday, July 1st at 7:00 AM and will remain so until 10:00 PM on July 6th. Please check NOTAMS and call 216-261-8800 if we can be of any assistance. We’re eager to see airplanes arriving and departing once again!

Short-Term Hassle. Long-Term Value.

CGF’s lone runway 6/24 is currently under construction, preventing any fixed-wing aircraft from using the airport until it re-opens on July 1st. Please click on the calendar below for more details about the July construction schedule. Rotor-wing aircraft may still use CGF.

The Cleveland Jet Center will remain open in order to answer questions, schedule future arrivals, and provide the full menu of Concierge services, per normal. Please call 216-261-8800 to speak with a Customer Service Representative.

We regret that this short-term hassle interrupts your plans, as we want nothing more than to serve as Host to your Cleveland experience. We are pleased, however, that at the completion of this project the runway will be brand new and lengthened an additional 400 feet to 5,502 feet. Your safety is our priority, and a longer runway will go a long way toward providing a seamless experience from touchdown to takeoff. We realize many coming to Cleveland would prefer CGF as their gateway in order to attend The NBA Finals, visit family and friends, conduct business, and experience all that this great city has to offer! We are honored that many of our clients consider us to be an indispensable part of their Cleveland experience, and we look forward to serving you again in the very near future!

The Cleveland Jet Center offers uninterrupted flight access to the 2016 Republican National Convention (RNC) in Cleveland.

Located at Cuyahoga County Airport (KCGF), the closest airport to the 2016 RNC with no inbound or outbound flight (TFR) restrictions, The Cleveland Jet Center has expanded its operation to meet demand and is continuing to take reservations for aircraft arrivals during the Republican National Convention, beginning on July 18.

Cleveland, Ohio, May 24, 2016: The Cleveland Jet Center (CJC), announced today that the Cuyahoga County Airport (KCGF)-based FBO has expanded its operation to meet demand, continuing to take reservations for aircraft arriving for the 2016 Republican National Convention, July 18 – 21, 2016.

“Located just minutes from downtown Cleveland, Cuyahoga County is the closest airport to the Republican National Committee’s Convention (RNC) headquarters,” stated Aaron Thayer, CJC’s Manager. “Due to our location, even with heightened security throughout the city for the event, visitors operating in and out of our facility won’t experience any TFR interruptions that will plague other locations for the entire week. Operators can base their aircraft with us for the week, or come and go according to their schedule without worrying about unpredictable security restrictions and delays throwing a wrench in their plans,” Thayer stated.

Thayer explained that some visitors are unaware of Cuyahoga County Airport’s location in parts of three Eastside suburbs and two counties concentrated around Cleveland’s financial districts, serving a largely executive base as a gateway between Cuyahoga and Lake County. With its easy access to freeways, The Cleveland Jet Center provides convenient downtown access, giving visitors seamless travel to the 2016 Republican National Convention – all while staying just outside of the 10-mile presidential TFR and away from the TSA Gateway program that will be in place for all Burke Lakefront Airport (BKL) incoming and outgoing flights. The net result is the most efficient, luxury point-to-point travel experience to and from Cleveland.

“Our ability to forecast needs and react quickly will be a key value driver for our guests during the Republican National Convention. Unlike our competitors, we possess the agility to significantly scale our operation during that week to deliver a superior service experience in the midst of unprecedented traffic volume,” he said. Among the many services and conveniences The Cleveland Jet Center will offer its visitors during the RNC are expanded parking for 150 + aircraft, an expanded lobby area of 17,000 ft2, along with a significant increase in professional staff and fuel inventory. “This unprecedented demand of new and frequent clients has presented a unique opportunity to demonstrate our responsiveness and commitment to the needs of our customers,“ said Thayer.

Representatives from EPIC® Fuels will be on site all week to lend CJC assistance with card processing, customer service and to ensure fuel is always available during the event.  “EPIC® staff are well-versed in assisting FBOs in managing high density events such as this. Over the years we’ve be onsite working hand-in-hand with our partners, whether it’s a national sports championship or national political convention, we’re ready to help make the customer experience seamless and stress-free,” said Ryan Mikolasik, chief marketing officer for EPIC® Fuels.

The Cleveland Jet Center has gone to extraordinary lengths to prepare for what promises to be an extraordinary week in Cleveland. “I took a team of our leaders to Augusta Regional Airport in April to assist their staff during the week of The Masters®. We experienced what I would call ‘controlled chaos’, seeing over 3,000 arrivals in a week’s time. This experience clarified the logistics challenges of car rentals, hotel reservations, and catering, to name a few.” Thayer reported that The Cleveland Jet Center has secured over 100 rental cars from Hertz®, with numerous hotel rooms reserved, and will provide onsite, on-demand catering onsite throughout the week of the event. “Cleveland’s slogan for the RNC’s Convention has been, ‘Start Here: Finish Here.’ For our guests, our preparation promises that their arrival and departure will be just as enjoyable as their stay.”

Key strategic partners will be on-site to offer assistance and accommodations to guests:

  • Epic® Fuels for fuel supply and timely payment processing
  • Hertz® for on-site rental Cars
  • Casa Dolce for on-demand catering needs
  • Anthem Security Services for contracted, secure logistic transport in addition to onsite private security
